Why attend ELS?

The challenge

Education’s leadership crisis:

  • 10,000 of New Zealand's 50,000 teachers are nearing retirement age.
  • Up to 50% of newly-qualified teachers leave the profession within the first 5 years.

In short: we’re trying to replace an ever-increasing pool of experienced leaders with an ever-decreasing pool of emerging leaders. But let's be clear about leadership: a leader is someone who grows other leaders around them while growing themselves, and we need a lot of them if we’re to meet this challenge and provide a better future for our students.

What will be covered?

The Emerging Leaders' Summit is a two-day masterclass designed to act as the 'missing Swiss army knife' that every aspiring leader needs. It features a wide range of practical, every-day leadership tools that will make your life easier. Leading educators from around the country are being brought together to convene sessions on a wide range of topics that are centred on the challenges facing education: strengths-based leadership, "leading up", change leadership, Māori and Pasifika achievement, culturally-responsive leadership, social justice, modern learning environments, and user-centred design (among other things).
